Article I - Members

Section 1

Each member of the Board shall meet the following qualifications:

A. A parent of a child attending Saint Catherine of Siena Parish School

B. A registered member of Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Parish.

C. An active Catholic - someone who is involved in Saint Catherine of Siena Parish and school activities: physically, financially and ministerial.

 

Section 2

Members should have a strong and positive commitment to Catholic School education and actualization of the Mission Statement and philosophy of the school.

 

Section 3

Members are required to participate in all scheduled meetings.

 

Section 4

All Board members shall serve for a term of two years. Members may not serve more than two terms consecutively. All terms of office for Board members begin on July 1st and end on June 30th.

 

Section 5

Vacancies shall be filled by appointment of the President and with approval of the Pastor for the remainder of the term vacated.

 

Section 6

New Board members are required to attend the diocesan "New School Board Member Workshop" as a condition for taking office.

 

Article II - Selection of Members

Section 1

Members shall be appointed to the Board before the June meeting and take office on July 1st.

 

Section 2

Membership to the School Board shall be determined in the following manner:

A. Application by qualified person.

B. Interview by the Pastor and Principal.

C. Appointment by the Pastor to the Board.

 

Section 3

The Board shall establish a selection schedule that will provide for the selection of three or four members each year.

 

Section 4

Officers of the Parents' Club or their spouses are not eligible for Board membership.

 

Section 5

Only one member of a family is eligible for Board membership at any given time.

 

Section 6

Employees of the school or their immediate family members are not eligible to be members of the Board.

 

Article III - Removal of Members

Section 1

The Board, with the approval of the Pastor, may declare vacant the office of a Board member on the occurrence of any of the following events:

A. The Board member fails to attend three regular meetings of the Board without excused absence.

B. Any act of course of conduct that is inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, according to Canon Law.

C. The Board member has been convicted of a felony.

D. For any conduct that is disruptive of the working relationship of the Board or School Community.

 

Article IV - Officers

Section 1

Election of Board officers shall take place at the May meeting each year.

A. Election shall be in the following order: President, Vice President, Finance Officer, Secretary

 

Section 2

Members are limited to holding the same office for no more than two consecutive terms.

 

Article V - Executive Committee

Section 1

On-going standing committees shall consist of the following: Strategic Planning, Development, Plant & Facilities, Finance, Mission Effectiveness, and Technology.

 

Article VI - Order of Business

Section 1

The order of business shall be determined by the Board President and the Principal. Members shall receive the meeting agenda and minutes of the previous meeting a minimum of five days prior to the meeting.

 

Section 2

Non-members who wish to address the Board shall submit a written request ten days prior to the next Board meeting. The request shall include the subject and background information if necessary.

 

Article VII - Amendments

Section 1

Board members must receive notice about by-law amendments at least thirty days prior to the vote to amend. These By-laws may be amended by a vote of two-thirds of the Board voting at a regular meeting.
